One of these components is the transmission oil pressure switch, which is designed to monitor the amount of pressure built up inside the transmission case as fluid flows through a series of chambers and channels to permit the transmission to smoothly shift gears. Hope this helps all that are not mechanically inclined but it is simple and if your looking to save a few bucks its easy enough to swap out yourself.On most modern cars, trucks, and SUVs, the transmission and components inside are monitored by a series of sensors and switches that relay information to the ECM every millisecond. Start it up run through the gears and recheck the fluid level with the truck running. It takes about 4.5 quarts to refill the trans. The trans takes ATF +4 and can be bought at most local parts stores. After you bolt the pan back up, pull the dipstick out and fill it back up with fluid. Snug with a 3/8 ratchet should be good enough it takes about 25 ft lbs so not very much. The pan doesnt need to be crazy tight or it will leak. Put the new sensor in a put the small assembly back together and bolt it up.
IF you have problems going back in check the orings on it and make sure they are intact and in their reliefs. Do not beat it in whatever you do it should slide right in. when you have removed the nuts it will still be a little tight because the solenoid holds it in so make sure that you pay attention how it comes out because it wont be seated right if you put the solenoid up to high on the bracket. lbs which isnt very tight and from personal experience overtightening anything in a trans can be bad so just snug them up. They arent very tight and remember when going back together that the torque spec for these bolts are maybe a 100 in.

When you have it down to there you will need a 11mm socket and a t25 torx socket or driver to remove the plate holding the sensor and solenoid. Once you get the pan off you will see the transfilter and valvebody underneath it. Get a drain pan with a nice wide mouth because there is no drainplug unless you have an aftermarket pan and it will make a mess. after you have the sensor make sure if you dont have a reuseable gasket to get another one. I had problems getting the right thing the dodge dealership kept trying to give me the governor pressure solenoid. Its a little four pronged black plastic sensor. After you have confirmed that it is the sensor your going to need to get the sensor and make sure you call it the right thing it is called the governor pressure tansducer. However when you connect this resistor it effectively makes the computer see that the trans fluid temp is around room temp about 75 degrees or so and will make your transmission operate correctly. Many have found a way to connect an inline resistor of 1000 ohms on the correct wire which Im not sure which one it is because I didnt have a need to but if anyone wants I can look it up and let you know.

Now there are many ways to confirm this issue but if you dont have a scantool it become more difficult as many times it wont set a code so that means no flashing codes or hooking up a code reader to help.
Its not all that difficult but any help is beneficial.

Well after confirming my suspicion I found that it was indeed the sensor I took a couple pictures and figured I would write up a how to for those that run in to this same problem. I randomly lost lockup and overdrive and after some research found that the trans fluid temp sensor commonly fails and can cause this. I had problems with my trans this weekend.
