They have a lot of clever stuff in their games, and usually gorgeous art direction, but very poor balancing and some frankly bizarre, gimmicky, and dubiously useful design elements that I can only assume were put in because of their novelty. I'm actually quite a big fan of strategy in general, but I happen to strongly dislike the way this developer designs their games. Nor would it be fair to say that this developer's other two titles are among the best examples of 4x strategy available. Recruit a team of shipwrecked heroes, plunge into a long-abandoned space station, and protect your crystal against never-ending waves of monsters or die trying, get reloaded, and try again.
Yes, they crammed that FIDS system from their strategy games into it, even when it doesn't quite fit, but it is absolutely not a 4x strategy game. Since you say you don't like the other games from this developer, I suspect you don't like 4x strategy games. These can be used to get better defenses and upgraded characters. The big things you should be doing from a strategic sense are increasing your FIDS (Food, Industry, Dust, and Science), so that you will have resources to invest. The events were fine until the last they added that is a direct p2w model of an event and if it is how future events are going to be made will only increase the desire I have to uninstall the game. In the last year since I started we have gotten 3 new player sets of gear to obtain, and now we are at 5 cosmetic skins you can get through events. Then they changed it so they would have no cap and this was the beginning of the slope we are sliding down now. It wasn’t bad at first as heroes were capped to 5 star upgrades. They have overloaded the power progression onto heroes that are impossibly difficult to achieve high levels with, in hopes to have players buy hero keys. I have played since 2 months after launch and will tell you the game as it is now is nothing like the game it was. It was engaging and rewarded you for the time you put into it.
